What the Manchild in Revelation 12 Is Not

The manchild in Revelation 12 is often misrepresented by the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) and other dominionist groups as a metaphor for a superior end-time breed of Christians or a mature Church that takes over the earth before Christ returns. This is false.

Revelation 12:5“And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.”

The manchild is not:

  • A generation of dominion-minded apostles and prophets.
  • A mystical company of “manifested sons of God.”
  • A postmillennial Church that establishes the Kingdom before Christ returns.

It is a composite picture: of Jesus, the Head, and His faithful Church—the Bride—who will be raptured before the dragon (Satan) can devour them. It is not a militant, earthly movement but a people snatched away to heaven.

False Doctrines That Distort End-Time Truth

1. NAR (New Apostolic Reformation)

Error: Claims the Church must be led by modern “apostles and prophets” who will bring dominion over society and establish God’s Kingdom on earth before Christ returns.

Scriptural Refutation:

  • Ephesians 2:20 – The Church is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets—not a continuation of their office.
  • 2 Thessalonians 2:3–4 – The Antichrist comes before the Day of the Lord, not after the Church “takes over.”

2. Dominionism & Kingdom Now Theology

Error: Teaches that Christians are called to take dominion over government, media, and culture in order to bring about the reign of God on earth.

Scriptural Refutation:

  • John 18:36 – Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world.”
  • Luke 17:20–21 – The Kingdom is a spiritual reality, not a theocratic government.
  • Revelation 13 – The Beast system rises globally, not a Christian kingdom.

3. 7 Mountain Mandate

Error: Proposes that Christians must conquer seven spheres of influence (religion, family, education, government, media, arts, business) before Jesus can return.

Scriptural Refutation:

  • 2 Timothy 3:1–5 – The last days are marked by peril, not Christian dominance.
  • Revelation 3:10 – Jesus promises to keep the faithful from the hour of trial—not send them to conquer it.

This teaching promotes worldly ambition and pride, not readiness for Christ’s return.

4. Post-Millennialism

Error: Believes that Christ returns after a golden age where the Church gradually Christianizes the world.

Scriptural Refutation:

  • Matthew 24:21–31 – The world grows worse, not better, before Jesus comes.
  • Revelation 19:11–16 – Jesus returns with judgment, not applause.
  • Luke 18:8“When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”

5. Amillennialism

Error: Denies a literal 1,000-year reign of Christ and spiritualizes the promises to Israel and the Church.

Scriptural Refutation:

  • Revelation 20:1–6 – Six times it says “a thousand years.” This is literal.
  • Zechariah 14:9–16 – Jesus rules physically from Jerusalem, with nations worshiping Him.
  • Amillennialism undermines the promises of restoration for Israel and the physical reign of Christ.

6. Preterism

Error: Claims most or all of Revelation was fulfilled in 70 A.D., including the tribulation and return of Christ.

Scriptural Refutation:

  • Revelation 1:7“Every eye will see Him.” That didn’t happen in 70 A.D.
  • 2 Peter 3:10–13 – The heavens pass away with a roar—not a temple burning.
  • Daniel 9:27 – The 7-year covenant and abomination are yet future.

Preterism removes the urgency of Christ’s return and denies the need to be watchful.

The True Biblical View: The Bride and the Imminent Rapture

The Bible teaches Jesus returns after 2,000 years, like Hosea and Luke say:

  • Hosea 6:2“After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will raise us up.”
  • Luke 13:32 – Jesus works for “two days,” then is perfected.

The Church Age (2,000 years) ends with the rapture of the Bride:

  • 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17
  • Revelation 3:10
  • John 14:1–3

False Teachers: Johnny Enlow, Lance Wallnau, and Others

These men twist Scripture and promote New Age-style esotericism, wrapped in Christian terms.

  • Johnny Enlow claims to have divine visions and secret revelations—classic Gnosticism.
  • Lance Wallnau promotes the 7 Mountain Mandate and Kingdom Now deception.
  • Many others falsely prophesy dominion, revival, and wealth transfer, while denying the imminent return of Christ.

2 Timothy 4:3–4“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine… they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”

Conclusion: Be Watchful, Not Deceived

These teachings are in direct opposition to biblical prophecy and are preparing people for the Antichrist, not Christ. They promote staying, reforming, and ruling in a world that God has already declared under judgment.

Jesus is not returning to find a conquered world—He’s returning to rescue His Bride before judgment falls.

“Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”
— Matthew 24:44

Reject false prophets. Hold fast to sound doctrine. Look up—your redemption draws near.
